The central focus of educating children with special needs is nurturing the acceptance of diversity in our society. Inclusion encourages opportunities for families, educators, and the community to support the needs of all children. Sharing, learning, and respecting each other’s individuality are just some of the multiple advantages of positive inclusive practices.
Disabilities Services and the Grantee Program Support Services Unit supports and advocates for young children with special needs and their families. The Unit also supports the Grantee and Delegate agencies in complying with Head Start Performance Standards for Children with Disabilities 1308 and 1304 by ongoing monitoring with timely follow-up, content meetings, professional development opportunities, community events, and quality assurance. More importantly, the Grantee Program Support Unit ensures that it will assist Sacramento County Head Start/Early Head Start programs in meeting the Performance Standard 1305.6 mandate which states that at least 10% of the total number of enrollment in each grantee and delegate agency must be made available to children with disabilities. Sacramento County Head Start programs has exceeded in meeting this mandate.
